Welcome to the first developer diary on our new site. Right now we are knee deep in new and exciting stuff, which makes it difficult for me to decide what to write about.
Well, to start off; our latest title Diamond Dan has been released! We are very proud of the final product. I personally think it fills a nice niche, being an Indie game, while it's still appealing to a broad market.
Of course, having a game released does not mean we are sitting still. We have already been all over the world with the first prototype of our Laparoscopy Training Simulator. For those of you who do not yet know what this is: it's a product with which surgeons can sharpen their laparoscopic surgery skills, using little more than a Nintendo Wii.
The challenge in this product is to use the hardware of the Nintendo Wii without physically modifying any of the existing peripherals, while still trying to get an accurate read of the motions of the surgeons. We took what we learned from the first prototype and based on those results we are in the process of getting the input more consistent and reliable. This week we've taken big steps in realising that.
We stepped away from using the Motion Plus extensions, and instead are exploiting the infra-red detection of the Wii Remote. This does away with extra weight in the controls, the extra cost of the Motion Plus and the calibration process, resulting in a more accurate and cheaper solution, making this product accessible to more people.
There is a lot of work to be done in this, but it brings us a big step closer the our final goal. To make a game which is fun, not only for surgeons, but for everybody, in which the extension on the controls is not an extra hurdle to be taken, but a valuable addition to the game.
